Portree District Gaelic Choir Win the Margrat Duncan Memorial Trophy.

The choir has just had one of their most successful Mòds ever in Glasgow . On Thursday night the choir conductor Iain Cormack won the Traditional Gold Medal making him a double Gold Medalist having won the prestigious An Comunn Gold Medal in 2023.

On Friday morning the choir competed in the Puirt a Beul Competition against 15 other choirs and came in 3rd = , a brilliant result especially as they were competing against all the Premier competition choirs.

Then on Friday afternoon the choir competed against 9 other Area choirs in the Margrat Duncan Memorial Trophy and finished top, winning  the main trophy and sharing top prize for Gaelic with Nairn Gaelic Choir while also sharing top prize in Music with Aberfeldy Gaelic Choir.

Congratulations to everyone and especially to Iain Cormack winning at his first attempt as choir conductor and Mary Ann MacKenzie our Gaelic Tutor. This is the first time the choir have won the Margrat Duncan Memorial Trophy which  they have been competing for since 1995 having been runner up on 4 occasions and 3rd also on 4 occasions.

The choir are on a well deserved break for a few weeks and will return for choir practice on Tuesday 17th November at 7:30pm in the Skye Bible Church on Bayfield Road

As always the choir is looking for new members and if you are interested in singing choral Gaelic songs whether you are Soprano, Alto, Tenor or Bass, please come along to any of our sessions on Tuesday evenings  at the Skye Bible Church , Bayfield Road, Portree, down the lane at the back of Boots the Chemist. Practices take place every Tuesday from 7:30pm till 9:30pm. Prior knowledge of Gaelic is not necessary as the Gaelic tutor will teach you the word pronunciations and meanings.
