Choir Information:   Last update  November 8th 2025

Latest News:

Reminder:  The choir restarts after a short post Mòd break on Tuesday 18th November at 8pm in the Skye Bible Church Portree.

The choir had a really good  Mòd in Fort William and finished 4th out of 9 choirs that competed in the Margrat Duncan Memorial Trophy. The choir also competed in the Puirt competition and although not placed in the top 3,  achieved a very credible  92 marks for Gaelic.

Our Musical Director, Karen MacRae  has now retired from the choir after nearly 40 years service with both the Portree District Gaelic Choir and the Strath Gaelic Choir. We are very sorry to see her go but wish her a long and happy retirement. The choir celebrated with Karen at the Skeabost Hotel on Friday 24th October with  a fantastic buffet meal followed by a ceilidh and everyone was in great voice.

The Deputy Choir Leader, Iain Cormack from Portree and  a former Gold Medalist will now take on the roll as Musical Director and the choir is looking forward to working with Iain in his new role.

After a short break after the Mod the choir will be returning for practice sessions with new songs on Tuesday November  18th until 16th December after which we will have a break for Christmas and return for the new session on January 13th. If there are any changes to these dates I will post here asap.

As always the choir is looking for new members and if you are interested in singing choral Gaelic songs whether you are Soprano, Alto, Tenor or Bass, please come along to any of our sessions on Tuesday evenings  at the Skye Bible Church , Bayfield Road, Portree, down the lane at the back of Boots the Chemist. Practices take place every Tuesday from 8pm till 10pm. Prior knowledge of Gaelic is not necessary as the Gaelic tutor will teach you the word pronunciations and meanings.
If you have any questions please contact choir secretary Iain Blair at portreegaelicchoir@btinternet.com.
